“Any child who is self-sufficient, who can tie his shoes, dress or undress himself, reflects in his joy and sense of achievement the image of human dignity, which is derived from a sense of independence."
 - Dr. Maria Montessori
The Kindergraten Program is a continuation of what the children have learned in the Preschool Program. This program provides a full expression of the Montessori principles of self-directed, individualized learning in a truly intergrated curriculum. The children will now move from concrete to abstract reasoning and problem solving.
The goal of the Preschool Program is to help the child develop mastery of self and environment, self-discipline and social competence. The tasks and exercises are divided into 5 areas of learning: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language and Culture. Academics will be guided through concrete, manipulative materials using all five senses to help lay the groundwork for abstract thinking. Children in this program will be introduced to basic foreign language. They will also be exposed to a variety of cultural experiences such as art, music, drama through in-house performances, and classroom presentations.

The preschool classrooms are carefully designed and divided into areas of activity. Areas of learning are defined, but are spacious enough to allow plenty of room for social interaction and activities required for growth and development. Teachers lead the class using Montessori materials and activities that are designed to arouse the children's interest and involvement. As an aid to this period of the child's development, individual work is encouraged.

The areas of learning include large muscle movement and fine motor exercises for hand and eye coordination. Practical Life exercises such as dressing - buttoning, zipping and tying their own shoe laces - and setting a table, are introduced early, providing opportunities for children to care for themselves and their environment. Lessons on grace and courtesy are practiced daily to help the children learn to share and be considerate of others.

Our academic curriculum is based on the Montessori method. We pride ourselves on a low student-to-teacher ratio. The teachers guide the children with activities that introduce and strengthen not only their academic skills, but their social skills as well.

In addition to the "basics,” we offer students a wide range of gross motor and creative opportunities including weekly music appreciation classes, ongoing dance and art workshops, and martial arts. We include enrichment activities that extend our students' knowledge and understanding of the world outside the classroom--exploring continents, countries around the world, their languages, cultures and traditions. To give the children a greater appreciation of their community, each year we organize field trips to a working farm, a post office, a fire station, and other local places of interest.

Whispering Oak Montessori School offers programs for children as young as 6 weeks to 6 years of age. Montessori educational programs provide students with a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning and personal growth.

Our programs:
•Allow students to work at their own individual pace, with the teacher
introducing new materials only as current materials are mastered, to
  ensure success rather than frustration.
•Put emphasis on the process rather than the product of learning.
•Promote mastery of self and environment, self-discipline, and social
  competence.
•Explore math, language, geography, botany & science, social studies,
art and music, involving children in a series of sequential,
manipulative, and sensorial activities that lead them from concrete
  to abstract learning.
